PROTOCOL: Zero-day — Cyber-Apocalyptic Isometric Roguelite

The Vision

PROTOCOL: Zero-day (PZD) is a cyber-apocalyptic action experience designed around one core promise: death is just a reboot. The project merges hack’n’slash intensity with roguelite rigor, delivering short, high-pressure runs where every failure still pushes the build forward.

Our objective was clear: create a game loop that respects player time while preserving depth, tension, and long-term mastery.

The Challenge

Most action roguelites either become repetitive grind loops or punish players so hard that progression feels reset-heavy and frustrating. We needed to design a structure that keeps adrenaline high without sacrificing retention:

  • Short sessions, high impact: Incursions must feel meaningful in 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Persistent progression: Player power should survive failure to reward commitment.
  • Strong combat readability: Fast click-to-position gameplay requires precise threat telegraphing.
  • No filler design: Every system must contribute directly to action, build optimization, or strategic decision-making.

The CRYPTOS Solution

We built PZD around a compact but scalable gameplay architecture:

  • Persistent run meta: Stats, weapons, and spells are preserved between failures, enabling strategic re-entry.
  • Sector-based restart logic: The protocol relaunches players at the start of the current sector, balancing punishment and fairness.
  • Five-world progression ladder: A clear long-term objective with escalating pressure and threat complexity.
  • Ruthless combat core: Isometric hack’n’slash loop with tight dodges, crowd control pressure, and continuous positioning decisions.

Player Loop Design

The gameplay loop is intentionally simple to read and hard to master:

  1. Deploy: Launch an incursion from the hub into a corrupted sector.
  2. Survive: Fight, loot, and manage rising threat pressure in real time.
  3. Progress: Even on failure, the build advances and feeds the next run.

Launch Strategy & Community

PZD is currently in community build-up and playtest phase, with a clear early-access strategy:

  • Early Access positioning: “Zero filler” value proposition for action-focused players.
  • Launch price anchor: 9.99 EUR at entry, with price evolution as features ship.
  • Acquisition channel: Discord-first funnel for closed alpha onboarding and Steam day-one readiness.
  • Community objective: Build a committed high-skill core audience before broader scale.
